Photo of a page from the July issue of In These Times, depicting a six-panel comic from Haus of Decline.
Panel 1: A woman standing and smiling in front of a chart. THE ADVENTURES OF BLOODLESS QUANT
Panel 2: Another woman pleads to Bloodless Quant: "Bloodless Quant, please help! I can't afford to feed my family!"
Panel 3: BQ replies, "That's ludicrous. The stock market is at an all-time high"
Panel 4: The woman says "But groceries are..." but BQ cheerfully interjects, "You shouldn't make statements if you don't have economic literacy!"
Panel 5: BQ holds up a chart with a line rocketing upward, saying "Here's a chart explaining why your fears are unfounded"
Panel 6: A boy asks the woman, "What are we having for dinner tonight?" The woman dejectedly stirs a pot with the chart in it. "Chart," she replies.

Pogo and Porky Pine are staring at a brick and Pogo asks “y‘mean this mouse used to hit this Kat with yon brick?” When Porky responds “verily,” Pogo comments that the Kat must have taken it poorly. Porky explains that she actually loved it, but as Pogo responds that it’s hard to believe, they both have to duck to avoid an oncoming brick. Pogo shouts “ghosts!” and we hear the brick hit something off panel, followed by a voice saying “L’il dollink.” Several hearts are floating around the word balloon.

closeup of a royal blue shirt with a minimal design of a cartoon lion with a blank face. across the bottom in yellow all-caps text, it reads PEDRO THE LION
EDITED:
oof, i feel bad for boosting an artist before learning about serious allegations of heinous behavior. i thought about it and decided to leave the post up, but remove my original text about the show. instead i'll insist that you see @drurystephanie's comment in thread for more information.
not going to dismiss it or sweep it under the rug just because a guy's music meant something me. hopefully everyone reads the convo below and takes it to heart.
and again, oof, sorry.

Cool shirt, great story
He has been MeToo'd. He has assaulted several women I know. They came to tell me because I used to have a podcast with him but they have each told me they don't want to come forward because of the backlash of his fans. And they were right. One woman, Tierney Tough, finally did tell part of her story recently and the backlash was intense.
@drurystephanie oof, i did not know about this. thank you for letting me know and sorry for boosting unaware. i'll go familiarize myself with the story
(for others, it looks like tierney tough told her story here: https://substack.com/@tierney...)
i'll leave this thread open so others can see stephanie's comment. it's important for people to know.
seeing fans of bazan dismiss it outright because "she seems off" is really disheartening and disingenuous. i don't want to continue in that trend of trying to dismiss someone trying to tell their story.
again, really sorry to learn about all of this. oof.

@drurystephanie
That makes me immeasurably sad and angry. Thank you for being someone they felt they could trust with their stories.

@BennyTheIcepick @nikkuneko Thank you so much for believing and caring. I was bracing myself for more backlash and am so relieved that these women are taken seriously. I'll link to two public FB posts I made and many of Bazan's buddies (who had been my buddies) swooped into the comments and my DMs to cast doubt on the accounts. It's especially devastating because Bazan's brand is "sincere ally" and I bought it hook line and sinker for many years, and love(d) his music so much.
Here are the links to the posts I made where I highlighted Tierney's story. I work with sexual assault victims and they are so often discredited and called crazy so to see this playing out amongst friends has been a mindfuck. Thank you both again for hearing and for your empathy, truly.

@drurystephanie thank you again, and thank you for the additional info. i know even just carrying these stories for other people can be tough, let alone navigating the backlash, so you're a hero.
i was in the midst of typing an additional reply to you because i was worried i'd come across too passive in my initial response; i should have explicitly said that my "thank you" also meant "i trust you". i'm glad you did come back to the thread.
i'm sad that it took me years and years of learning from people who went through stuff like this to see how both "she seems crazy" and "well i've known him all my life" are weaponized against people just trying to speak out. i've seen it happen time again, with artists i follow as well as people i've known in real life, and i'm honestly sick of it happening without being interrogated. especially sad to see it unchecked here.
i guess i just gotta "grieve" this revelation, be done with supporting his music, and try to warn friends about this. i want to believe that he'll address it (or be forced to reckon with it) someday, but i worry he never will.

@drurystephanie there was sooo much talk about the undertoad before it happened and it was the undertoad.
I was there in the summer of 1990 with my girlfriend, much to my wife's chagrin.
@mcmjolnir I can only imagine. I almost succumbed to it in Virginia Beach as a kid and am still not over it. The undertoad (not the rhythm) is gonna get youuuu...tonight!

A basket of seasoned fries sits on a tiny round table on the ferry from Vestmanneyjar to mainland Iceland, with my hand in the foreground holding a packet of fry seasoning that says “KARTÖFLUKRYDD.” A can of passionfruit vodka cocktail named “P*RN” (WITH the asterix) sits on the table in the background.
Salt, tomato powder, sugar, onion powder. Magical. Gonna fill our suitcases with packets to enjoy at home. And then try to replicate it with ingredients at home. (Also the canned passionfruit cocktail “P*RN” (WITH the asterix), that’s the only vodka-based canned cocktail I’ve ever had that doesn’t make you go “ugh. A little yucky but still does the job at brunch or poolside without the effort of making your own, I guess.” It’s delicious.)
if you don't have any luck replicating it, you can get it here from a company called Badia or from an importer called Top Iceland
(we also love the stuff)
(we also love the stuff)
We might still have some tomato powder in the cupboard, i should try mixing some up

If you find yourself in Reykjavík with time to burn and you’re driving, Arbæjarlaug is a local pool that in our opinion handily rivals all the fancy hot springs. Plus it’s full of locals (local pool is a common very regular community spot in Iceland). Multiple hottubs, water slide, cold plunge, steam bath, indoor/outdoor pool… plus it’s much much less expensive than the spas.
But whatever your plans, I’m sure you’ll have a blast. A grand country full of extraordinary landscapes.

A color illustration by Moebius. It shows a man with his back to the viewer standing in front of an open door. In the doorway is an alien looking humanoid with green skin and barely a nose. The alien is holding up a golden disk with a white stripe down the middle.
Happy Moebius Monday! :)
Have you ever posted some Blueberry here? It would probably fly over the heads of the non-Europeans here, but it's also magnificent at times.

Middle-aged woman in T-shirt that says WTFWJ
I made this shirt to wear to evangelical family reunions, back before I went no contact. Every time I wear it people ask where I got it so I decided to sell them, with 10% going towards Prevent Child Abuse America (since evangelical culture contributes to so much child abuse). In my personal experience you will piss off the right people and start good conversations with the right people while wearing this. Good trouble!

image of text: Hey, do you like dot matrix printers? You do? Well, I have quite the treat for you: NearlyQ, the “Near Letter Quality” 9pin printer simulating font! Congrats, well done!!
@m3moellering thanks! I sat on this for years (since 2018 or so), overthinking far too many details. How these old printers stored their fonts was utterly bonkers: 8 pins of one pass stored in one place, then 8 pins of the second stored somewhere completely else. There's a one bit field that tells you where to put the additional two pins, depending on whether the character has a descender or not. At least one character has this coded wrongly: semicolon sits on the baseline, not below it. But that's for someone else to fix

A rickety tower of stacked, roughly cubical, wooden shacks. Some have tinges of red or blue, like paint that has largely faded and flaked away. The topmost shack and one lower down have a round yellow window and dish antennae mounted on the top. Yellow light filters between the boards. The sky is blue, with pink on the horizon. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

Infographic titled 'HOW COOL IT IS vs YOUR AGE' humorously mapping perceived coolness across ages 10–100. Items include 'Skateboarding' (younger years), 'Living alone' (early adulthood), 'Complaining about young people' , etc
The half pipe is a winning bit of visualization.
Independent of your age, patty cake coolness is transitive if your patty cake partner is 8.
Your peers grunting in agreement as you rant about the kids these days is not the same thing as them thinking you're cool.
And I'm pretty sure "being told that you look older" immediately hits a wall at the age of 21.

I just had my 60th birthday. Looks like it was a good thing that I didn’t celebrate.
@ardgedee I distinctly remember the first time I was sir-ed. I was thirty-two in a place called El Rancho Gaseteria. They also carded me because I looked younger than fifty.
I have complicated emotions about the encounter ,at least in part, due to how much older my spouse is than me.

I bet many of us are at the age that, according to this graph, very few things are cool. Weirdly enough I’ve never felt this cool in my life.
(I also don’t complain much about young people, I do envy them and feel sorry we left them such a mess.)

Pretty optimistic duration for patty cake, honestly
